Time for goodbye – Leicester parting ways with their 34-year-old veteran would be a win-win

Why Leicester City should part ways with Christian Fuchs

According to Daily Mail, Leicester City left-back Christian Fuchs could be on his way to the MLS when his contract with the club expires in the summer.

Fuchs, 34, enjoyed an incredible debut season with the Foxes when they lifted the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season under the management of Claudio Ranieri. He was a regular member of the squad for three seasons until English left-back ben Chilwell took his place in the first-team.

The Austrian had already extended his contract with the club for this season when his previous contract expired last summer but this time, Leicester should look to offload the veteran.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has done a stellar job in his first full season as the manager of the club. The Foxes are flying high on the success of star striker Jamie Vardy, who has been valuable to the squad. He has led the line brilliantly, scoring 17 goals so far.

Their defensive unit has also played a major role in their success this term as Rodgers’ side aim to qualify for the Champions League. The defensive partnership of Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans has been on point as the duo has helped them concede just 28 goals so far, which is the third-best defensive record in the Premier League.

Apart from them, full-backs Ricardo Pereira and Chilwell have also done a magnificent job at both ends of the pitch. The latter has gone from strength to strength in the past two years, claiming his spot in the national squad too.

Thus, with Chilwell claiming the spot for himself, Fuchs would not have much to offer to this side. Hence, offloading the Austrian would be a wise decision by the Foxes.

Fuchs is currently in his fifth season and has made just 8 appearances so far this term. He is already 34 and is beyond his prime. Therefore, selling him in the summer would also help Leicester bring in new faces, who can be a part of the future.

Verdict

Leicester should bring in reinforcements to the squad and this could be done only if they part ways with some fringe players. Thus, they should let go of the Austrian and bring young faces to the team.
