As per reports in Greece (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City are interested in Olympiacos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui.
Elabdellaoui, 28, came through the ranks of Manchester City’s youth setup but couldn’t break into the club’s senior side. As a result, he was sent on different loan spells before joining the Greek Champions in the summer of 2017.
Since then, he has been a regular member of the squad and his impressive performances also earned him the captain’s armband. He led his side brilliantly in the Europa League this season, and also played a crucial role in their progress to the last 16, defeating Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Leicester City have been brilliant under Brendan Rodgers this term and the Northern Irishman has taken them to the 3rd position in the league standings. The Foxes have enjoyed the brilliance of their forwards – Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes, James Maddison, Youri Tielemans and Ayoze Perez.
They have scored 58 goals so far and at the same, the defence has been a force to reckon with at the back. Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu have formed a strong partnership at the heart of Leicester’s defence and the full-backs, Ben Chilwell and Ricardo Pereira have done at incredibly at both ends of the pitch.
However, Rodgers should consider bringing in backups for their full-backs. Portuguese international Pereira has been injured and could take a long time to recover. And Youngster Justin James is short of experience. Hence, it would be wise by the club to bring in reinforcements to their backline and Omar Elabdellaoui would be a suitable choice for the Foxes.
The 28-year-old has already featured in 38 games this season for Olympiacos and is one of the best players at the club. The highly-rated right-back has got enough experience under his belt and could not only be a backup but also a regular in the squad.
Elabdellaoui is capable of playing anywhere across the right side of the pitch and could be useful for Rodgers. He has been brilliant in both defensive and offensive situations for his side and is a reliable member.
The Norwegian international has the potential to be a valuable asset for the Foxes if he is capable of producing the same form and staying at the top of his game.
At Leicester, Pereira has tirelessly featured for the club in the past two seasons without an experienced backup. And this would be the right time for the manager to add depth to his squad in the form of Elabdellaoui, who has the ability to succeed in the Premier League.
Therefore, Leicester should make no mistake in their pursuit for the Norwegian and should attempt to lure him to the King Power Stadium in the summer.
