Why Leicester City signing Kieran Tierney would be a good move

According to 90Min.com (h/t Daily Star), Leicester City are planning to sign Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney in the summer as a replacement for Ben Chilwell in case the Englishman moves away from the club. The report also suggests that the Gunners could accept a £25m offer for the talented left-back.

The Foxes started the season on a high note but they have shown inconsistency in the last few months, claiming just one win in the last five league games. Despite losing to Southampton and Burnley last month, they are currently third in the Premier League table.

However, they need to be at their best next season and one area where Leicester boss needs to concentrate on is the left-back position. Ben Chilwell has been exceptional for them but has got no proper backup.

Christian Fuchs is the only player available apart from Chilwell to cover that spot and this could trouble the Foxes in the future. Fuchs has featured in only 7 league games so far and is already beyond his prime at the age of 33. He will also be out of contract at the end of the campaign.

With a lack of depth in that position, Rodgers has to bring in reinforcements before the new campaign begins. Hence, the manager would be wise to sign Kieran Tierney.

The 22-year-old is a highly-regarded left-back and has already shown promises of taking his game to the next level before he dislocated his shoulder. He would be a great addition to Leicester City once he recovers completely, given his record for Celtic.

The Scottish international was a regular member of Celtic’s squad in the last four seasons before joining the Gunners. He made 170 appearances for the Hoops and in the process, scored 8 goals and provided 37 assists. He also won several titles with the Scottish Champions.

Tierney has already worked with Rodgers at Celtic and the duo was successful. This would allow him to settle in the Midlands easily and he could be a good replacement for Chilwell if he leaves the Foxes.

Verdict

The Scotsman has potential and irrespective of Chilwell’s future, Tierney would be a good addition for Leicester City, as evident from his growth so far. Therefore, Leicester must not miss the opportunity to sign Tierney if Arsenal allow him to leave in the summer.
