Leicester City interested in Merih Demiral – Do they need him in their squad?
Leicester City are aiming to secure the signing of Juventus defender Merih Demiral, according to Leicestershire Live.
The Turkish defender is stated in the above report to be one of the top targets for Brendan Rodgers. The Juventus star is seen as a long-term replacement for Harry Maguire who moved to Old Trafford.
Demiral has made just five league appearances so far this season for Juventus, since joining from fellow Italian outfit Sassuolo last summer but however, he has become quite a regular for his national side at a very young age.
The young gun started out in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon before going to his home country. The very next year, Demiral made a move to Sassuolo and later made a switch to Juventus.
A change in clubs again would be the players 5th team, having played for four teams in the last three seasons. At Juventus, Demiral hasn’t been the main player given his age and the fact that the club have four other main centre-backs in their line-up means that time was always going to be limited for Demiral this season.
For the Foxes, Caglar Soyuncu has filled the void left by Maguire with some solid displays at the back and has received a lot of support from his partner Jonny Evans, who is already 31.
This means Leicester need someone to join the ranks and provide cover as Jonny Evans might not have many more years to give. The club also have Wes Morgan who is 35, and he is already past his prime. Benkovic doesn’t seem to have Rodgers’ trust yet.
Final words
Leicester City going into the market for a defender is the right move. The Foxes do need someone like Merih Demiral and he would be a great choice and fit at the King Power Stadium.
Rodgers really needs a new face to bolster his options and defensive reinforcements are a must as Leicester have qualified for the Europa League. The Turkish international is just 22 and has a lot more to offer. If the Foxes secure his signature, they should be able to enjoy his services for the long term.
