According to the Mirror, Premier League champions Liverpool are interested in Leicester City star Harvey Barnes.
The youngster has impressed under Brendan Rodgers and has become a regular for the Foxes and has caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp. Barnes has earned plaudits for his successful promising displays for the Foxes. The young star has caught people’s eyes with his blistering pace and hardworking nature.
Leicester City became the talking town after a successful 2015-16 Premier League campaign where they upset the odds to win the Premier League. Despite that, they were unable to hold onto their key players N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater and others. All of them completed their moves to bigger clubs, leaving the Foxes with a massive rebuilding task in hand.
Leicester have some top-quality young players in their ranks who have the potential to propel the club to great heights in the foreseeable future. And once such player is Harvey Barnes, who has emerged as one of the key men for Brendan Rodgers this term, following a successful spell with West Brom last year.
Barnes has found the back of the net 7 times and also has 9 assists to his name in a tight season that saw the Foxes miss out on the Champions League spot by a whisker.
It does make sense for Liverpool to add a player of the likes of Barnes. The Reds have had a very successful season but do miss a bit of depth in the wide attacking areas.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been terrific down that wide areas but other than them, Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi have been playing wide. While Minamino is showing promise, the other two haven’t been all that successful.
The addition of someone like Barnes will give Liverpool the boost they need in the squad. Liverpool have won the league but if they are to successfully defend the title, they will need to do more than just put all the pressure on Salah and Mane and rely completely on them.
Barnes can create and score goals, and is only going to get better with time given his young age and the potential he has shown. The 22-year-old Englishman has the potential to evolve into a Premier League stalwart in the years to come and thus, Liverpool would be right in signing Harvey Barnes.
