Why Leroy Sane would be a brilliant addition to Real Madrid
As per the German publication Bild (h/t The Express), Real Madrid are interested in signing German forward Leroy Sane, who has been frequently linked with a move to Bayern Munich.
Sane, 24, came through the ranks of Schalke’s youth system and broke into the first-team in the 2014/15 season. His contribution of 8 goals and 6 assists in the following season earned him a move to Manchester City that summer.
The £90,000-a-week star established himself as one of the best wingers in the Premier League and has made 134 appearances for the Manchester club, scoring 39 goals and providing 45 assists in the process. He was excellent in City’s title-winning 2018/19 season and caught the attention of several top clubs, including Barcelona, as per the report.
However, he picked up an injury that kept him out for the majority of the season and he just returned to training before the league got suspended.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have had their own problems even after the arrival of Zinedine Zidane. Despite being at the top of their game, they have been inconsistent and the losses against minnow teams have highlighted the need for a change.
Most of the members in the squad are 30 or beyond in age and the manager should look to reinforce the squad with young players for the future. Eden Hazard was signed last summer but the Belgian has featured in very few games due to injuries. Gareth Bale has not been a regular either, under Zidane.
Hence, Los Blancos should make a move for an established winger in the summer and Manchester City’s Leroy Sane could be a brilliant signing.
The 24-year-old finished the 2017/18 campaign with 14 goals and 19 assists and followed it up with 16 goals and 18 assists last season. He has been delivering the goods regularly for Pep Guardiola’s side and is one of the most consistent members of the squad.
Sane has also got a vast experience despite his tender age and has caused damage in the Premier League on the left flank. Apart from that, he is also capable of operating from the right flank and also as an attacking midfielder.
The German international could be a replacement for Bale at Madrid as the Welshman is out of favour. Sane can develop himself as the best winger in Europe if he is able to return fully fit and continue with the same bright form.

Verdict
Though Madrid have two young wide-men in Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, they need to sign an established player who has experience at the highest level. And the German speedster would certainly boost the Zidane’s attacking unit with quality and depth.
Therefore, the Spanish giants should make a move for Sane and lure him to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
