According to The Sun (h/t Daily Mail), Bayern Munich are interested in signing Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino for £75m in the summer.
The report also suggests that Bayern’s stand-in manager Hans Flick is an admirer of the Reds’ No. 9 and wants him to play alongside the free-scoring Robert Lewandowski.
However, Firmino penned a new deal with Liverpool in 2018 and has committed himself to the club until 2022.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s men have been excellent throughout the campaign and have lost points only against Manchester United earlier. They sit comfortably at the top of the league table with 22 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
The Reds won the Champions League last year and also claimed the Club World Cup title back in December. Despite putting in impressive performances throughout the last two campaigns, Liverpool’s front three have been unstoppable. They have been the driving force of the team and alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the Brazilian is a key figure under Klopp.
Firmino may not have scored as many goals as the other two but he has served as the link for both the prolific goalscorers. The 28-year-old played an important role in Liverpool’s Club World Cup success, scoring the winning goal in the semi-final and the finals. Since arriving at Anfield, he has made 228 appearances for the club and has scored 76 goals, while providing 59 assists.
The Brazil international is an out-and-out striker but is also capable of playing as a second striker and as an attacking midfielder. He is one of the most important players in Klopp’s squad and therefore, Liverpool must avoid selling him.
Bayern Munich’s £75m offer does sound tempting but the Reds should be aware of Firmino’s qualities.
Therefore, to continue at their best, the Reds must avoid temptation from the Bundesliga side and keep hold of the 28-year-old.
