According to Evening Standard, Liverpool are interested in signing Bayern Leverkusen star Kai Havertz in the summer transfer window.
Havertz, 20, came through Leverkusen’s youth ranks and has already made over 130 appearances for the club at such a young age. He is one of the most talented youngsters in Europe.
His impressive performances also earned him a call up to the German national team in September 2018 and since then, he has made 7 appearances for his country. The youngster has also attracted interest from English clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea, as per the report.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are a few steps away from lifting their first Premier League title after dominating the other sides throughout the campaign. Jurgen Klopp has been brilliant over the past few years and has done everything possible to lift the Reds to the top.
The attacking unit of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohammed Salah has been one of the best in Europe for the past couple of years. They have formed a strong partnership and have terrorized several opponents in England and across Europe.
However, the loss to Watford earlier in the season and the exit from the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid indicates they need to improve their creativity in the middle of the park. Adam Lallana, who is an attacking midfielder, has seen limited game time and Naby Keita has not lived up to the expectations.
Thus, Klopp needs to inject his squad with young and in-form players, and Kai Havertz could be the key to their creativity.
Havertz has been in sensational form for the German side in the past few years and has been the driving force of the team. Last season, he ended up as the team’s top scorer in the Bundesliga with 17 goals and 4 assists.
The German international already has a vast experience that belies his tender age and could be a good fit behind Liverpool forwards. He has racked up 6 goals and 5 assists so far this term and is a talented player. He would be a huge boost to Klopp’s squad, especially with his versatile nature of play.
At 20, Havertz is one of the best creative midfielders in Germany and has the ability to succeed at a higher level. He would definitely add depth to the Reds squad and given his young age, he could represent them in the long run.
