Why Liverpool should pursue Wolves star Adama Traore despite £75m price tag

According to SoccerLink (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool have been linked with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore.

The report adds that rival Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the winger’s situation. As a result, Wolves have slapped a £75m price tag to scare off the suitors.

Traore, 24, who came through the famous La Masia academy in Barcelona, had featured for Aston Villa and Middlesbrough before moving to the Molineux Stadium in the summer of 2018. Though his first season under Nuno Espirito Santo was not excellent, he has transformed himself into one of the best wingers in the league this season.

He has scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists for Wolves across all competitions this season, putting in some brilliant performances on the right flank.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s side are inching closer to the league title and have been extremely dominant.

However, the Reds’ achievements so far would have been impossible without the front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. The trio has time and again scored crucial goals for the side, lifting Klopp’s men to the top.

Barring Divock Origi, Liverpool don’t have proper back-up for the front three. Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri’s future at Anfield continues to be uncertain (h/t BBC) and therefore, Klopp must bring in reinforcements for next season.

In the meantime, Traore has been one of Wolves’ star players this season. He has been a regular under Nuno and has helped the side to 7th place in the league standings.

In the Premier League this campaign, Traore has registered an average of 1.2 shots, 1.4 key passes and 5.7 dribbles per game [Whoscored]. He also has a better track record than Shaqiri, who has averaged 0.7 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.3 dribbles. [Whoscored]

Alongside Liverpool’s front three, the Spaniard would add more strength to the team.

Verdict

At 24, Traore would be the right person to lead the Reds’ attack, given his qualities. Furthermore, he would be an upgrade on Shaqiri, who could move away from Anfield in the summer (h/t BBC).
