According to a report from Football Insider (h/t Lancs Live), Liverpool have joined Leeds United and Brighton in the race to sign Blackburn Rovers teenager Luke Brennan.
The 18-year-old Brennan came through the youth ranks at Blackburn. A left-sided midfielder by trade, the youngster has made quite the impression during his time with the club’s U18 side. So far, he has featured 47 times for the U18 outfit, scoring 8 goals and creating 17 more.
On the back of this, Brennan has broken into the Blackburn Rovers’ U23 side and has featured seven times in the Premier League 2 in the 2019/20 campaign.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have had another brilliant season. Building on the back of their UEFA Champions League triumph last time out, Jurgen Klopp’s brigade won the FIFA Club World Cup in December and are primed to lift their first-ever Premier League title when the season resumes.
There is no denying that Liverpool’s first-choice starting XI is one of the best across Europe. However, Klopp lacks the same quality on the bench, especially in the attacking third of the pitch. And that is something the manager should address in the summer transfer window.
At the same time, Liverpool should not ignore recruiting youth for the future. The Reds are home to some of the most exciting young prospects in the country. The likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Rhian Brewster are the future of the Merseyside outfit.
Furthermore, with finances are likely to be hampered due to the coronavirus crisis, there is a good chance that Klopp will push through more youngsters into the first-team come next season. Hence, it would hold the Reds in good stead to continue adding more talented youngsters to their youth ranks.
To that end, signing Luke Brennan from Blackburn Rovers would be a wise move. The 18-year-old has shown plenty of potential in his burgeoning career so far with the Rovers’ U18 side as well as the reserves. In the 2019/20 season, the left-sided winger featured 16 times for the U18s, scoring 3 goals and assisting 7 more.
Liverpool have some of the finest young prospects coming through their youth ranks. And adding another talented youngster in the form of Luke Brennan would only enhance their future prospects. The 18-year-old has shown plenty of potential with the Blackburn Rovers youth sides so far and would be a good addition for the Reds with an eye on the future.
