Why Manchester City should avoid a move for Dario Sarmiento
According to ESPN, Manchester City are interested in signing Estudiantes youngster Dario Sarmiento for the future.
The report suggests that the teenager’s potentials are immense and he has been likened to his compatriot Lionel Messi.
Profile
Born in Argentine, Sarmiento flourished through the ranks of Estudiantes’ youth system and broke into the senior set-up last season. So far, he has made 8 appearances for the club and has just one assist to his name.
Why City don’t need Sarmiento
Pep Guardiola’s side disappointed last season as they failed to defend the league title and were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal in the semi-finals. Further, they also fell at hands of Lyon in the Champions League despite beating Real Madrid in the previous round.
However, they have made some big signing this summer to improve the squad. Youngster Ferran Torres was signed as a replacement for Leroy Sane, who joined Bayern Munich. The Spaniard has been impressive for Valencia in the last couple of seasons and can be a crucial player for City next season if he is able to continue with the fine form.
Apart from Torres, they have plenty of options in the wide areas. Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling are all world-class players who are capable of producing the goods. They also have youngster Patrick Roberts and Marlos Moreno, both of whom just returned from their respective loan spells.
Regarding the future, Torres is just 20 and can go on to represent them in the long run. Roberts and Moreno also have time to impress the manager and can be seen as future prospects for the club. Thus, there is no need of signing Sarmiento at the moment.
The young Argentine has made just 8 appearances so far and nothing can be said of his consistency if he joins City. He needs to be playing regularly at this time and with City, he may find chances hard to come by or would be sent out on loan spells. Thus, it would be wise if the Etihad outfit avoids a move for Sarmiento.

Verdict
With plenty of options available for the present and the future, making a move for the 17-year-old seems unnecessary. And they can save their resources by avoiding this move. Instead, City should look to strengthen other key areas for the upcoming campaigns.
