According to The Express, Manchester City are considering a move for Marseille defender Boubacar Kamara, who is valued at £28m by his club in the summer.
Kamara, 20, is one of the most promising young defenders in Europe after breaking into the French outfit’s first-team three years back. He has established himself as a regular member of the squad in the past two years.
His impressive performances have also caught the attention of Chelsea, who have watched him previously, as per the report. The youngster has already made nearly 80 appearances for Marseille and could be on the move this summer.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s men have failed to defend their title after an unconvincing campaign so far. Despite reaching 2nd position in the league table, City have failed to dominate as they have done in the past few years. They are currently 25 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
One of the chief reasons for their inconsistency is the lack of stability at the back. The manager failed to bring in a replacement for Vincent Kompany, who departed last summer. The lack of leadership at the back has been a major concern.
Aymeric Laporte was considered to be their leader in defence but the former Athletic Bilbao man was injured for the best part of the 2019/20 season. John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have struggled to find form too. Defensive midfielder Fernandinho was hence pushed to the centre-back role.
Guardiola’s men have already conceded 31 goals so far which is a testimony to their poor standards as they had let in just 21 in the whole of last season. Thus, to strengthen their backline, the manager should bring in reinforcements and Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara would be a viable option for the club.
Kamara has been in good nick this season, featuring in 21 Ligue 1 games. He has also contributed with 1 goal and 2 assists so far, whilst helping his side keep 9 clean sheets as they are 2nd in the French league standings.
His impressive performances have also earned a call-up to the French U21 squad last summer and he could be Manchester City’s player for the future as he is just 20. He would definitely add depth to City’s defensive unit if he joins them.
At 20, he has a huge future ahead of him and City need to strengthen their backline if they have to continue their dominance in the future. Thus, securing the service of Kamara in the summer would be a wise decision by the club.
