According to the Express, Manchester City are leading the race to sign Harry Kane next summer. The Spurs talisman has always attracted speculation from sides such as Real Madrid and Barcelona due to his rapid rate of scoring.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has gone ahead and slapped an £89m price tag on Kane. Manchester City, on the other hand, are looking to find an adequate replacement for the ageing Sergio Aguero.
It is probably hard to describe what Aguero is to City given his impact since signing for the club. From scoring the most important goal in the club’s history which won them their first-ever Premier League to becoming the record scorer for the club, he is an absolute legend at the Etihad.
However, as time is passing, Aguero’s age is slowly catching up to him and it is visible from the injuries he has been suffering. He has missed 51 games in the last 4 seasons. Clearly, another experienced striker is a huge requirement at this stage.
Sergio Aguero is slowly entering the twilight years of his career and whether or not City like it, they will have to replace him eventually. The sooner they do it the better it is because his injuries are becoming more frequent and Gabriel Jesus is the only other centre-forward in the side.
There are few strikers who can say that they have been the Premier League’s best other than Kane. The Spurs man may not have enjoyed collective success with the team but he has kept up his scintillating run in front of goal over the last 6-7 years. This season the 27-year-old has added another facet to his game – improved playmaking abilities.
It’s not easy playing under a tactician like Guardiola who relies on intricate gameplay from each of his players. That’s why someone like Aguero flourished under the Catalan manager. He is more than a traditional number nine with so many more facets to his game.
It seems like Harry Kane is the tailormade replacement for Sergio Aguero at Manchester City given his heroics over the years and his current run of form as well.
An £89m price tag may be a huge sum especially given the current economy due to the pandemic. But when the player in question is a certain Harry Kane, City must not flinch paying that amount next season.
