Why Manchester United must make a move for Ferran Torres
According to Goal (h/t The Shields Gazette), Manchester United have enquired about the possibility of signing Ferran Torres ahead of the summer transfer window.
Torres, 20, came through the Valencia youth ranks and got promoted to the club’s senior team back in January 2018. Since then, he has been a regular starter and has established himself as one of the first names in Albert Celades’ team sheet.
The youngster has already made 88 appearances for Valencia and his impressive performances have also caught the attention of Liverpool and Manchester City, along with Manchester United, as per the report.
Meanwhile, United’s poor start to the campaign has been overshadowed by their recent good run of form. Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to lift them up with the signing of Bruno Fernandes in January.
The Portuguese’s arrival coincided with United’s 11-games unbeaten streak. They are currently 5th in the league table, just three points away from fourth-placed Chelsea and are in contention for a finish within the top four when the league resumes.
The manager made some important signings last summer as well, bringing in Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James. All three of them have been brilliant so far and have played a major role in their change of fortunes.
However, there are a few positions that needs to be strengthened in the summer, especially the wide areas. James, Jesse Lingard and Tahith Chong are the natural wingers available at the manager’s disposal. While James has been effective from the left flank, scoring three goals in August, Lingard has been totally out of form. And Dutchman Chong has also not contributed much.
With United’s left-wing and centre-forward positions in their best form, the manager should prioritize signing a right-winger to form a strong attacking unit. In that regard, Valencia youngster Ferran Torres would be a good fit at Old Trafford.
Torres has been in decent form this term, contributing with 4 goals and 4 assists in 25 league games so far. He also played a major role in his side’s qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League and has done well despite his tender age.
The Spanish U21 international’s performances in Champions League this term have shown he has the ability to succeed at a higher level. He would be able to add depth to United on the right flank. His inclusion would also bring in a healthy competition to James and Lingard.

Verdict
At 20, Torres has a huge future ahead and has the ability to be a prized asset for United if he is able to continue with the same form. He would also provide them with much-needed depth on the flanks and thus, United signing the Spaniard would be a wise move.
