According to Manchester Evening News, Facundo Pellistri could be sent out on loan by Manchester United. The youngster joined the club this season but hasn’t made his bow for the senior side yet.
He has played most of his games for the reserve side. Currently, he is recovering from COVID, after which the club wants to send him out on loan so that he gets regular game time.
Facundo Pellistri, 19, started his youth career at La Picada and also went on to play for the academies of River Plate Montevideo and CA Penarol. Penarol promoted him to their senior side in January 2019 and he made his professional debut for the club in August against Defensor Sporting. He scored his first-ever goal for the club in November 2019 against Club Atletico Cerro.
He made 37 appearances for Penarol, scoring twice and assisting 4 goals (h/t Transfermarkt). The youngster made the move to United last summer and was drafted to the U-23’s where he has played 8 games, scoring thrice and assisting once. He has been called up to the senior side twice in the Champions League but did not play.
While it would have been interesting to throw Pellistri in the first team mix, the club has taken the right decision to allow him to settle in. Plus the club spent big money on Amad Diallo who joined the side recently.
It has been said that Diallo could be kept in the side and fast-tracked to the first-team while Pellistri could be sent on loan. It makes some sense because Pellistri has not played European football before while Diallo spent time at Atalanta in the Serie A.
A temporary spell away from the club would be a good experience for the Uruguayan youngster. He would get a taste of competitive football and gain valuable game time. Something he might not get at Manchester United given the side is stocked in attack. Sending him on loan seems like a good decision for all parties involved and Manchester United would hope that the youngster can step into the first-team soon.
