Willian

Manchester United endured an underwhelming campaign, largely due to City’s record-breaking run to the title. The Cityzens broke the record for winning the league with the largest point-gap. And who finished second? Manchester United!

Honestly, the Red Devils were left frustrated even though they are runners-up this time. The team put in inconsistent performances throughout the season. After completing high-profile signings like Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez, the club were expected to be racking up the trophies. Instead, the players were facing stick from a number of critics and pundits around the country.

Mourinho ended the season trophy-less after losing 1-0 to Chelsea in the FA Cup final, courtesy of an Eden Hazard penalty. Mourinho will now be aiming to make a comeback next season, such is his character. The manager doesn’t take losing lightly and is a very sore person when it comes to matters such as this. He will certainly be hoping for some sort of revenge to prove the critics wrong.

The Portuguese manager has already completed the signing of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and is still hoping to make a few more signings before the start of the new season. One such player that has been linked with the Red Devils over the last few days is Chelsea winger Willian Borges Da Silva.

The Brazilian is touted to replace Anthony Martial, as there are concerns over the French winger’s future at the club. Willian could be the one to take his place.

The Brazilian joined Chelsea in 2013, going on to make a total of 166 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 20 assists. Willian is known for his marauding runs down the wing, using his thunderous pace and ability on the ball. The winger is also brilliant at set-pieces, scoring the most number of free-kick goals for the Blues.

He made a total of 36 appearances in the league this past season, scoring 6 goals and providing 7 assists. Willian averaged around 1.9 dribbles per game and 1.7 key passes.

He is just the type of winger that is perfect to work under Mourinho. He has a tireless work rate, often retaining and winning the ball back in defensive positions. That’s the kind of quality Mourinho loves in his players.

Willian is a proven Premier League player and has worked under Mourinho when the manager was at Stamford Bridge. The pair shares a healthy bond and a move to Old Trafford would certainly be a success for Willian.

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a £60million bid for the Brazilian but all negotiations will have to wait until the end of the World Cup, as Willian is currently on duty with the national team.
