Why Manchester United should invest in Patson Daka for the future
According to The Sun, Manchester United are plotting a move for RB Salzburg star Patson Daka ahead of the new campaign.
The report suggests that the young striker is worth £20m plus but United are not willing to waste their chances of signing young talents. It is claimed that the Red Devils would definitely look to take Daka on board if the Austrian outfit are prepared to sell him.
Profile
Born in Zambia, Daka began his journey with Nchanga Rangers in his homeland before joining Kafue Celtic. He then spent half a season on loan with Liefering before joining RB Salzburg in the summer of 2017. He initially joined the youth set up and helped the club with the UEFA Youth League that season as he scored 2 goals in 2 games in the competitions.
Though he initially struggled with the club’s senior set-up, he was a part of the side which won the league in 2017/18 and the following campaign. Last season, he led the team to the league title with 24 goals and also helped Salzburg lift the Austrian Cup title.
Daka played a key role in Zambia U20’s Africa Cup of Nations win in 2017 and was named the African Youth Player of that year.
Daka could be a replacement for Ighalo in United’s attack
At the moment, United have two strikers. Anthony Martial enjoyed one of his most productive spells last season, scoring 22 goals across all competitions. The Frenchman has been in fine form and looks set to lead United’s attack for a few more years.
Nigerian Odion Ighalo was signed on loan initially before making the move permanent a few months back. He has done well so far but has only one more year left on his contract. Moreover, he is already 31 and is reaching the rear end of his career. Thus, United should consider signing a youngster with a view for the future.
In that regard, Daka would be a fantastic addition to the squad. The Zambian scored 24 goals and provided 8 assists in 32 league games last season. He enjoyed a brilliant 2019/20 campaign and should only get better with experience.
The youngster is just 21 and a huge future lies ahead of him. He could be a good replacement for Ighalo and could be used as an understudy to Martial. And with experience, Daka could also fight for the spot in the future.

Verdict
With Ighalo ageing, United need a back-up for Martial as Mason Greenwood looks more comfortable on the right side of the attack. Daka could be a smart signing for the club.
He could provide them with some much-needed extra goals and could go on to lead United’s attack in the future if he is able to grow into a star. Thus, investing in the Zambian international could help them reap rewards in the future.
