Why Manchester United should make a move for Joe Hugill
According to The Sun, Manchester United have scouted Sunderland teenage striker Joe Hugill and are interested in signing the striker in the summer.
Hugill, 16, has spent his entire career with his boyhood club Sunderland and is regarded as one of the most talented players to emerge from the club’s academy. So far, he has played seven games for the Black Cats in the Premier League 2 and U18 Premier League competitions, scoring 3 goals.
He is one of the best strikers of his age group and has also attracted interest from Liverpool and Tottenham, as per the report. Thus, United should make a move for him this summer and invest for the future.
After a mixed start to the campaign, the Red Devils have made progress in the latter stages of the league. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to get the best out of his players and the signing of Bruno Fernandes has helped in the change of their fortunes.
United have gone unbeaten in the last 11 games across all competitions, scoring 29 goals and conceding twice. While everything seems to be going in the right path, it would be wise if the English giants invest in their youth academy.
Though United have plenty of options in the striking department, they need to make new signings for the future. While reconstructing the first-team, they also should make sure to bolster their youth ranks, especially at this time when the finances of all the clubs are likely to be impacted due to the coronavirus crisis.
A move for youngsters, which wouldn’t cost a hefty sum, seems to be the right idea at the moment and it could also help them invest in the future.
Hugill – A future signing for United’s attack
In that regard, Sunderland’s teenage sensation Hugill would certainly fit the bill. At 16, he has a long way to go before becoming a first-team regular. He could be used in the youth ranks and coming through the ranks at Old Trafford would help in his transformation.
The fact that Liverpool and Tottenham are also monitoring him provides a hint of the talent the Sunderland starlet possesses. Hugill could be a crucial player for the Red Devils in the future, given he develops himself and is confident in his games.
