Why Manchester United should make a move for Wilfred Ndidi
According to Leicestershire Live, Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi ahead of the summer transfer window.
Ndidi, 23, came through the ranks of Nath Boys’ youth system in Nigeria and moved to Genk in the summer of 2015. After impressing in his time at the Jupiler League, he was signed by the Foxes in 2017 and since then, he has become an integral member of the squad.
The Nigerian is one of the key players under Brendan Rodgers and is one of the reasons for the Foxes’ third-best defensive record in the league. He has been reliable since his arrival in England, and thus, Manchester United should make a move for him this summer.
The Red Devils have managed to bounce back after a poor start to the campaign and are currently 5th in the league table. They are also on the verge of qualifying for the next round in the Europa League.
Since the turn of the New Year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have been able to turn the tide in their favour. United haven’t lost any of their last 11 games across all competitions, scoring 29 goals and conceding just twice in the process.
However, the manager should look to bring in reinforcements to the squad if they are to perform well next season. One area which Solskjaer must focus on is the midfield. Fred and Scott McTominay have been brilliant throughout the campaign but apart from them, no one made an impact.
Paul Pogba has been out of action for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign and his future with the club still remains uncertain. And Nemanja Matic, who hasn’t been at his best, has just one more year left in his contract.
In that regard, signing Leicester’s Ndidi would be helpful to the squad. The 23-year-old is one of the best players in the Foxes squad and has taken his game to the next level. In 23 league games so far, he has contributed with 2 goals and 1 assist despite mainly operating from a deeper role.
The Nigerian international would be a perfect successor for Matic, who is ageing. And apart from the Serbian, United don’t have any natural defensive midfielders. And Ndidi has already proven his worth for the Foxes this term.

Verdict
With a lack of options in the midfield, the Red Devils are in need of young midfielders. Ndidi could provide them with the much-needed depth. His inclusion would also bring healthy competition in midfield. Thus, United should sign the Nigerian this summer.
