Why Manchester United should send Alexis Sanchez on loan next season

According to Sky Italia (h/t Daily Mirror), Inter Milan are interested in keeping Manchester United loanee Alexis Sanchez until the end of next season.

The report claims that Inter have been in constant discussions with United regarding the possibility of extending Sanchez’s stay at the San Siro for another year. Sanchez left United on loan last summer to Inter. He has featured just made 17 appearances for them across all competitions in a season hampered by injuries.

Despite not making much of an impact since moving to Italy, Inter are still keen on keeping him as they feel he could be vital to their title run next season.

Sanchez surplus to requirements at Manchester United

The veteran Chilean has managed just 5 goals and 9 assists from 45 matches for the Red Devils following his successful stint with former side Arsenal.

Having scored an impressive 80 goals from 166 matches for Arsenal, Sanchez failed to live up to the expectation at United. In fact, he suffered a major dip in form, scoring just once from his 20 league appearances last season.

This saw the veteran forward being sent to Inter on loan earlier this summer. However, luck seemed to have not favoured Sanchez, who has found the back of the net just once this season for the Serie A side.

Meanwhile, United roped in young winger Daniel James in his place. The 22-year has been an instant hit, scoring three goals and assisting six times in the league. This saw him earn a regular spot under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Also, with top-scorer Marcus Rashford now back in the fray following his injury mid-season, Sanchez’s chances of a first-team appearance look increasingly limited in the coming days. With his substantial £400,000-per-week wages remaining a major concern for United, it would be better for the club to send him out on loan or rather sell him permanently.

However, with the coronavirus crisis affecting the transfer market this summer, it remains uncertain if any club would want a player who demands such high wages. Hence, letting him go to Inter on loan for another year seems like the best option for Solskjaer’s side.

Verdict

Manchester United are already well-stocked on the flanks and Sanchez seems surplus to their requirements at the moment. The Chilean has also started to show signs of ageing as it has been evident from his performances in recent times. Hence, letting him go on loan for another season to Inter would be a wise move by United.
