Why Manchester United should sign Corentin Tolisso to boost their midfield
According to Foot Mercato (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso in the summer.
Tolisso, 25, established himself as one of the best midfielders in France during his time at Lyon since making it through the club’s youth ranks. In 160 appearances for the French outfit, he racked up 29 goals and 17 assists and that was enough to convince Bayern Munich to sign him in the summer of 2017.
He immediately broke into the Bavarians’ first team and contributed with 6 goals and 4 assists in 26 league games, helping them lift the Bundesliga trophy that year. However, his last two seasons in Germany have seen his progress suffer due to injuries. And with the frustration of limited game time under Hansi Flick, United should take advantage of his situation and sign him by the end of the campaign.
The Red Devils have made a tremendous comeback after coming under the limelight for the wrong reasons at the start of the campaign. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to lift the team to 5th position in the league standings as they are hoping to qualify for the Champions League next season.
One of the main reasons for their improved performance is the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, who has brought life into their dull attack. The Portuguese playmaker has scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists since moving to Old Trafford at the end of January. United also haven’t lost any of their last 11 games, scoring 29 goals and conceding only twice in the process.
Apart from the Portuguese international, Fred and Scott McTominay have been brilliant in the middle of the park for the Red Devils. The Brazilian is one of the most improved players this term after an unconvincing debut season with United and McTominay has been a key figure in the side.
However, United lack depth in their midfield, with Paul Pogba featuring on the sidelines for the best part of the 2019/20 season. Nemanja Matic is the only other established midfielder for United and the Serbian could be on the move when his contract expires next summer.
Thus, Solskjaer should prioritize strengthening the midfield and going for Corentin Tolisso in the summer would be a wise move.
Though the former Lyon man has struggled with injuries in the last two campaigns, his potential can never be doubted. He has made 228 career appearances and would be a perfect replacement for Matic once the Serbian’s time is up at United.

Verdict
Tolisso is just 25 and could be a crucial player alongside Fred and McTominay for a few years. He can also provide United with much-needed extra goals from midfield and could be a valuable addition to Solskjaer’s squad if he is able to keep himself away from injuries.
