Why Manchester United should sign Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin

According to Express, Manchester United could turn their attention to Dominic Calvert-Lewin as an alternative for Erling Haaland, who could be difficult to pursue due to the presence of agent Mino Raiola. Calvert-Lewin has been in very good form this season and it is believed that he could cost around £75million.

A youth product of Sheffield United, Calvert-Lewin joined their academy in 2005. Spending the next decade through the youth sides, he was promoted to the senior side in 2014. He would then go on two loan spells. First to Stalybridge Celtic and then Northampton.

On his return, he featured sporadically for Sheffield United and went on to play just 12 games for them. In 2016, he was signed by Everton. That season, he featured for their reserves on quite a few occasions but did get some game time in the Premier League.

From the next season, he would go on to become an important member of the side. It is however this season that Calvert-Lewin has kicked it up a notch. He has already bagged 11 goals in 14 league games this season. The forward made his international debut for England in October and also bagged his first goal.

Calvert-Lewin can be a decent alternative for Haaland

Given the growing tensions between Mino Raiola and Manchester United, the club would be better off not pursuing players managed by him. That includes long time target Erling Haaland. While both parties have done a lot of business before, it’s the Pogba situation that has made things reach boiling point.

With Raiola as Haaland’s agent, United must avoid looking in that direction. Moreover, not too far from home, a certain Dominic Calvert-Lewin is going all guns blazing. He has kept firing in the goals, which has kept Everton in the upper half of the Premier League.

Calvert-Lewin is a forward who thrives on service. He will constantly need balls being fed to him so that he can finish off those chances. Manchester United need someone exactly like that. A classic, old-school No.9. The Red Devils have some fine midfielders to provide great service and it could be a match made in heaven.

Anthony Martial is more of a dribbler while Cavani is in on a short-term deal. That makes the signing of Calvert-Lewin all the more a priority. United have spent big on Premier League forwards before and shouldn’t think too much about the £75million that Everton are asking.
