According to Football Insider (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United are interested in signing Tomas Soucek. The towering midfielder has impressed everyone with his showings this season for West Ham.
When Nemanja Matic arrived from Chelsea in 2017, he was seen as a real coup. He proved to be just the same as he formed the spine of the side that finished second that season. A cool, calm and collected presence at the base of midfield, Matic was often seen breaking down opposition play with ease and kick-starting moves from deep midfield positions.
Post that, Matic regressed a bit and the likes of McTominay and Fred were given chances to impress. Both of them took their chances and kept Matic out of the line-up. It was an injury to McTominay that allowed Matic to return. He impressed during the post lockdown phase, forming a vital partnership with Pogba and Fernandes.
Even though Matic remains a prominent member of the side, one needs to remember that he turns 33 next year. It goes without saying that Manchester United need a player to take up his mantle in a season or two.
Tomas Soucek was a relatively unknown quantity when he arrived at West Ham. Yet as he completed a full year at the club in January, everyone knew the quality Soucek brought to the table. His uncanny ability to make those late runs from midfield as well as make himself a target for set-pieces make him a huge asset.
West Ham were so impressed with his form that they made his loan deal permanent in the summer. Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as one of main midfielders in the team alongside Declan Rice.
Manchester United are rightly looking at the 25-year-old Czech international as he is a proven performer in the Premier League. He is a long-term solution for United, and Manchester United’s management should not hesitate to pursue the West Ham man in the summer.
