Why Manchester United signing Wesley Fofana would be a great move
According to Metro, Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has urged the club to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City. The former midfielder was of the opinion that United need to find the ideal partner for Harry Maguire as Eric Bailly is an injury risk and Victor Lindelof remains unconvincing. Scholes said that if Solskjaer were to sign any defender this month, it should be the 20-year-old Leicester City starlet.
Manchester United could do with a solid young defender
Manchester United are back to where they finished under Sir Alex Ferguson. Top of the English football chain and they have done it this season with some good level of hard work and also been helped by other big teams’ poor form.
Currently, the club holds some advantage over Liverpool and if they are to extend that, they will need another long-term signing in central defence. Maguire remains United’s most reliable and solid defender but finding a decent partner for him has been the challenge.
Lindelof partnered him through most of last season but there are some serious deficiencies in his defending. Eric Bailly returned this season but he remains an injury prone option. With the club looking to sign young players with potential in recent seasons, Paul Scholes was right to float out the name of Wesley Fofana (h/t Metro).
Wesley Fofana can be a fantastic long term addition to the side
United should listen to Paul Scholes’ advice and try to sign Fofana. The youngster has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and already looks like a solid piece of investment. Since his arrival, he has missed only two Premier League matches and Leicester have won all but four games in which he has played.
Despite the tender age, Fofana looks like a player mature beyond his years. Maguire isn’t the fastest of defenders, and so a mobile defender like Fofana would ease Maguire’s problems.

It might be very hard to prise Fofana away from Leicester though as we saw during Manchester United’s pursuit of Maguire. The Foxes are likely to demand a similar figure for him but United can rest assured that they would be getting a solid, no-nonsense defender who can develop even further and partner their captain in defence.
