Why Mohamed Salah would be perfect to bolster Real Madrid’s attack
According to El Desmarque (h/t The Express), Real Madrid are planning to swoop Mohamed Salah in the summer from Liverpool to add firepower to their attack. The report suggests that Los Blancos believe they can sign the Egyptian if they offload Gareth Bale in the summer.
Mohamed Salah, 27, came through the youth ranks of Arab Contractors SC and Mokawloon SC and made a name for himself in Basel. Chelsea bought him in 2014 but deemed him surplus to the squad and sent him on loan spells to Fiorentina and AS Roma. He joined the latter in 2016 on a permanent basis.
He scored 34 goals in 83 appearances for Roma and that convinced Liverpool to sign him a year later. He has gone on to establish himself as one of the best forwards in the Premier League, winning the Golden Boot in his first two seasons with the Reds, scoring 32 goals and 22 respectively in the league.
He was excellent in the Champions League campaign when Liverpool lifted the trophy last season. He has been a key member of the Reds’ attacking unit, helping in their dominance under Jurgen Klopp.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have struggled to find a prolific and consistent goalscorer ever since talisman Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus. Last season, they put on an abysmal show under the likes of Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari.
However, since Zinedine Zidane’s return, they have recovered but that has not been up to their high-level standards. Luka Jovic was brought in as a backup for Karim Benzema but the youngster has lacked game time.
Benzema seemed to get going but has failed to score in the past few weeks. On the other side, Gareth Bale has fallen down the pecking order and has been troubled by injuries in the last two years. Therefore, Zidane should look to bring reinforcement in the form of Mohamed Salah, who is currently at the peak of his career.
The 27-year-old is intelligent on the field and he has shown it numerous times in the last two seasons. In 36 games across all competitions this term, he has scored 19 goals and provided 9 assists.
The former Chelsea man also overtook Luiz Suarez’s goal tally for Liverpool, putting him in 18th position in the Reds’ all-time top scorers list with 90 goals in just 140 matches.
He would certainly add firepower to any team’s attack and has the ability to turn the game on his own, which is evident from the 5 man-of-the-match performances he has put in this season in the Premier League. Salah is good enough to go straight into Zidane’s starting XI at Real Madrid.
Verdict
Real Madrid have failed to score enough goals in the last two years and the game against Manchester City a few days back highlighted the need for an established forward in their attacking unit.
Therefore, they must push hard enough to get their hands on the Egyptian and do whatever it takes.
