Why Moussa Dembele to Chelsea would make them powerful in attack

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea have been handed a boost in their bid for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele after the French outfit’s president has revealed that it would be hard to not accept offers for the forward.

Dembele, 23, came through the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain’s youth system and joined Fulham’s U17 side. Having been brilliant during the 2015/16 season at Craven Cottage, he earned a move to Celtic.

In two years at Celtic Park, he established himself as a prolific striker and won plenty of trophies. He was signed by Lyon in the summer of 2018 and since then, he has become one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe. Thus, Chelsea should make a move for him before the start of the next season.

The Blues, meanwhile, have done a decent job so far. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has managed to get the best out of the youngsters despite having to do with a lot of injuries to key players. Though they have been dumped out of the Carabao Cup, they have maintained themselves in the fourth position in the league standings.

However, despite the Blues’ good run of form, they have shown inconsistency on several occasions. The attacking unit and the midfield has done well so far but their defence has been shaky throughout the season. They have conceded 39 goals so far and are also on the verge of exiting from the Champions League after a 0-3 loss to Bayern Munich in the first leg of the knockout stages.

Thus, it is clear that the Lampard needs to bring in defensive reinforcements, first and foremost, if they have to do better in further campaigns.

Dembele could provide flair to Chelsea’s attack

Apart from a central defender, the Blues should also bring in strikers to bolster their attacking unit. Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi are the three centre-forwards available at the manager’s disposal.

Abraham has led the line brilliantly, scoring 13 goals before he got injured. Giroud and Batshuayi, on the other hand, have failed to impress and have seen limited game time. As a result, the Blues should look to strengthen their attacking contingent in the summer

In that regard, signing Dembele would be a massive boost for the squad. The Frenchman has been in scintillating form in the past few seasons. He scored a whopping 51 goals in 94 games for Celtic before moving to Lyon. In his first season at Groupama Stadium, he scored 15 league goals and has continued with the fine form this term, finishing with 16 goals in just 27 Ligue 1 games.

The French U21 international’s addition to Lampard’s squad would definitely bring in a healthy competition to the other forwards. He is capable of performing at a higher level and would add more flair and threat to Chelsea’s attack as he has been scoring at will in the past few campaigns.

Verdict

At 23, Dembele is at the right time of his life to take a step into the Premier League. At the same time, Chelsea are in need of strikers to boost their attack. And Dembele would provide them with much-needed depth. Thus, the Blues must try to lure the former Celtic man to Stamford Bridge this summer.
