According to Examiner Live, Rolando Aarons has left Newcastle United to join Huddersfield Town. Newcastle manager Steve Bruce was open to exits as he needs funds to bring in any new players.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Rolando Aarons started his footballing education at Bristol City before joining Newcastle United’s youth system in 2012. He burst on to the scene as a promising teenager in the Premier League back during the 2014-15 season but has been limited to just 27 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies.
Aarons has spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe Wanderers in the Football League, as well as at Motherwell, Slovan Liberec, and Hellas Verona. The left-footed winger, though, has hardly made a positive impression in his loan spells and currently has less than 100 senior appearances under his belt.
The 25-year-old Englishman has had to play for the Newcastle U-23s and he has just made 27 appearances for the Magpies, scoring four goals and assisting three more (source – Transfermarkt). So far, he has played just 5 games for the England U-20s side.
It says a lot about Aarons’ standing at the club, given he made just 27 senior appearances in more than 6 years. He went on several loan spells to various clubs but he could not flourish in any of them. The winger was out of favour at St. James’ Park and was playing for the U-23s side lastly.
Newcastle have a good stock of wingers already at the club, with the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser, Jacob Murphy and Christian Atsu fighting for places. Even Miguel Almiron can chip in there if required. It is clear that Aarons would have had to oust quite a few of the in-form wingers even if he was given a chance.
With new faces required for Steve Bruce, moving on Rolando Aarons wouldn’t hurt the club much. Especially when we consider the fact that the positions he plays are well stocked.
While Aarons isn’t a bad player by any means, it might just be the case that he is not cut out for a side like Newcastle. A spell in the Championship with Huddersfield could perhaps suit him more.
