Why Newcastle United must avoid making a move for Divock Origi
According to The Sun, Divock Origi will be allowed to leave Liverpool as a host of clubs are vying for his signature. There is interest from Turkey and England with Newcastle United being one of the names looking to bring him in.

Divock Origi is a 25-year-old Belgian forward who plays for Liverpool. Starting his youth career at KFC De Zwaluw Wiemismeer in 1998, he moved to KRC Harelbeke in 1999. He also played for KRC Genk (2001) and OSC Lille’s (2010) youth sides.
Promoted to Lille’s first team in 2012, he went on to feature a total of 89 times for the French side, scoring 16 goals and assisting 5. Liverpool signed him in 2014 but sent him back on loan to Lille for that season.
Origi played his first match for Liverpool in September 2015 against Manchester United. After 2 seasons at the club, he was loaned to VfL Wolfsburg. He went on to play 36 times for them through the season and scored 7 goals (source – Transfermarkt).
On his return, he played the most important part in the club’s season. His brace against Barcelona in the 2nd leg of the Champions League in 2019 helped his team overcome a 0-3 result from the first leg. He also went on to score in the final that ensured Liverpool’s 6th UCL title. This gave him somewhat of a cult status among Liverpool fans.
He has been a sporadic member of Belgium’s squad through the years with 28 games under his name.
Do Newcastle need him?
Newcastle have done some good business this season bringing in the likes of Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson for a collective £35m. It is, however, that last name that should tell you that Newcastle have stocked up on their forward quota for the season.
Currently they have Wilson, Joelinton, Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle as their striker options. For a team that usually deploys just the sole striker in the majority of games, that is one too many names in that department.

Verdict
Given the number of options at manager Steve Bruce’s disposal, it hardly makes sense to add another striker to that above mentioned list. Origi may be an experienced player in the league but spending another £14m on him seems like a relative misuse of money.
