According to Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant (h/t Yorkshire Live), Newcastle United desperately want to sign forward Emmanuel Dennis in the summer.
Dennis, 22, was signed by Ukrainian outfit Zorya Luhansk in 2016 and shined for them in the league that season with 6 goals. His impressive performances earned him a move to Club Brugge and in three years in Belgium, he has already won 2 trophies.
The Nigerian came under the limelight this term after scoring two goals against Real Madrid in the Champions League and followed it up with a strike against Manchester United in the Europa League. He has established himself as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe after his impressive season in Belgium.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have been the masters of their own downfall in the league. After spending the first half of the campaign in the top half of the table, they have slipped to 13th position in the league.
One of the major reasons for their decline is the lack of consistency in front of goal. The Magpies have scored just 25 goals so far, joint-lowest in the league. Summer signing Joelinton has netted just 1 goal and has performed way below the expectations.
He has also not received much support from the likes of Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto, who have all been below the standards of the Premier League. Carroll has been in and out of the team due to injuries and that has made their attacking unit less dangerous.
Therefore, the Magpies have to sustain and prosper in the top-flight, they need to bring in-from strikers and bolster their attacking unit.
Dennis has gone from strength to strength since his arrival in Europe. After scoring 7 goals last season, he has taken his game to the next level with 9 goals in 33 games across all competitions this term. He has been Brugge’s man for the big games.
He is just 22 and looks capable of succeeding in the Premier League given his potential. If he fulfils his potential, he could be a valuable player for Newcastle in the future.
At 22, he has a huge future ahead and could help the Magpies increase their goal tally next season. He would definitely add depth to the squad, whilst also bringing healthy competition. Thus, signing Dennis would be a wise move by Newcastle.
