According to Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid and Valencia are interested in signing Norwich City star Emiliano Buendia in the summer.
Buendia, 23, came through the ranks of Getafe’s youth system in Spain and was sent on loan to Cultural Leonesa on loan where he delivered at the right time with 7 goals and 12 assists. He was immediately signed by the Canaries in the summer of 2018 and since then, he has been an integral member of Daniel Farke’s squad.
With 8 goals and 12 assists, the Argentine was one of the driving forces in Norwich’s promotion to the top-flight. He has been instrumental in the last two years and thus, the club should keep hold of him at any cost.
The Canaries are now relegated and have nothing to play for this season. However, a promotion back to the Premier League next season is all they have to focus on now. For this to happen though, they need to keep their best players.
One of the chief reasons for their failure is the lack of goals. The attacking unit has failed to deliver in the much-needed situations. Pukki has been their leader up front, grabbing 11 out of the 26 goals they have scored and Buendia has one goal and 7 assists to his name, making him the club’s highest assist provider.
However, while bringing changes to the squad, the manager should make sure he keeps hold of Buendia, who is one of the most reliable players in the squad. He has performed well despite the team’s poor record and is in the form of his life.
Norwich have only two established wingers in Onel Hernandez and Buendia in their ranks. And if anyone leaves, it would become difficult for the club to find a replacement in the summer, especially with on-going pandemic issues bringing a change in the system.
The former Argentine U20 international is just 23 and has a huge future ahead. He has the ability to succeed and has been consistent in the last three seasons. Thus, keeping hold of Buendia could help Norwich fight back next season.
With the Canaries being relegated from the top-flight, they have to keep hold of their best players and Buendia is one of them. He can be a crucial player in their hopes of returning to the Premier League. His departure could leave them with limited options up front. Thus, Norwich should do everything possible to block any exit for the Argentine.
