Why Norwich should part ways with Max Aarons amidst Barcelona talks

According to The Guardian, Barcelona are in talks with Norwich City over the transfer of Max Aarons. Norwich had previously rejected a loan offer but with negotiations still ongoing, a loan-to-buy deal could be reached.

Profile

Max Aarons is a 20-year-old English fullback who plays for Championship side Norwich City. He started his youth career at Luton Town in 2009 before moving to Norwich’s youth setup in 2014.

After that, he climbed through the U-18’s and U-23’s before being promoted to the senior side in 2018. He was an integral part of Norwich’s promotion campaign that season and was a constant for them last season in the Premier League too.

In total, he has played for the Canaries 85 times, including 2 games this season. He has 3 goals and 8 assists to show for those appearances (source – Transfermarkt).

He has been a part of the England U-19 and U-23 sides but is yet to feature for the senior side.

Why Norwich should offload him

Usually, it’s a very hard scenario when clubs get relegated. Their best players become available for grabs, worse, they are available for a cut-price transfer fee. With Norwich unable to keep their Premier League status after last season, it was no surprise to see a lot of their players attracting interest from other clubs (source – Sky Sports).

It’s very unlikely after such a good breakthrough season, Aarons is going to stay at Norwich. His stock is at a high and the club should look to cash in on that, even if it means losing one of their best young talents.

Verdict

With a club like Barcelona approaching Aarons, Norwich should look to accept their offer. Barca are in need of a new right-back and although Max Aarons is relatively young, he has great potential.

He is also capable of playing at both full-back positions. Norwich can use their stance to ask for a better deal if that is possible as they would need the cash, now that they are in the Championship.
