Velveteen Dream shocked the NXT universe with his antics against Roderick Strong in the steel cage match
Time might have finally come for Velveteen Dream to take the next step in his NXT journey.
The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the best characters and wrestlers on the NXT roster but injuries curtailed a great 2019.
Dream was the NXT North American champion and defended the title several times before losing it Roderick Strong.
He took time off to deal with an injured back but returned in 2020 to fight against the Undisputed Era.
Dream has targeted Strong and his wife Marina Shafir, and he was at it again on this week’s NXT. The main event was a steel cage match between Strong and Dream.
The match was incredible, as expected but the ending wasn’t. The Undisputed Era came out to attack Dream and he pulled off a great move. Dream was able to lock himself in the cage with Adam Cole, the NXT Champion and he destroyed the leader of the Era.
Dream also used the cage well and thwarted any attempt for the other members to come in and save their leader.
The former NXT North American Champion celebrated by taunting Cole with the title, and that seems to be his next target.
The perfect run-up to WrestleMania 36?
Although WrestleMania is just a month or so away, this provides NXT with just about enough time to cause a real rivalry to grow between Cole and Dream.
The pair are two of the best workers in the ring and can bring the house down at WrestleMania 36.
Further, Dream should have been battling for the top title before he injured his back, and this gives him the chance to do it.
Dream is possibly the most intriguing character on the WWE roster, and this is his big chance to show off.
Of course, Cole is a wonderful star in his own right and WWE didn’t really have many others to challenge the champion.
Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are having their own feud. Keith Lee is the new NXT North American champion and has others who are looking to fight him for that belt.
Finn Balor could have been the challenger for Cole, but the Irishman isn’t as hot as he was once he returned to NXT.
Cole has had his run as the top star in NXT and him losing the title at WrestleMania could allow WWE to push him to the main roster. Of course, he should go along with the entire UE to make them a top stable on either Raw or SmackDown.
Dream winning the title at WrestleMania would give him the limelight, like he needs more of it, and can be the top dog on NXT for a while.
