Why Odsonne Edouard to Arsenal would bolster their attack

According to Bleacher Report, Arsenal remain keen on securing the services of Celtic star Odsonne Edouard in the summer.

Edouard, 22, started his career with AF Bobigny before joining Paris Saint-Germain’s youth system in 2011. Having come through the ranks at PSG, he struggled to break into the French Champions’ senior set-up and was sent on loan to Toulouse and Celtic initially.

After impressing with 11 goals in his loan spell with the Hoops, his move was made permanent in the summer of 2018. Since then, he has gone on to established himself in Scotland and has also caught the attention of several Premier League teams. The striker is in a rich vein of form, having helped his side to the league title this term.

Edouard could grow into a reliable goalscorer for Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been excellent for the Gunners since his arrival. This season, he has bagged 20 goals in the league and is the club’s top scorer.

Apart from him, Alexandre Lacazette and the young Eddie Nketiah are available at the manager’s disposal. The former has not been at his best, as he has found it difficult to put in a string of consistent performances. He has managed to score just 10 goals in 28 league games.

However, both Lacazette and Aubameyang could be on their way out of the club, as per The Sun. And if it happens, Arsenal would become powerless in the attack. Thus, to avoid any limitations, they should bring in a centre-forward to be on the safer side.

In that regard, signing Edouard would do them a world of good. The Frenchman scored 22 goals last season in all competitions for the Hoops, with 14 of them coming in the league alone. He continued that fine form in the 2019/20 season by racking up 21 goals in 27 league games, also setting up 12 assists. He seems to be in the form of his life.

A lethal striker, Edouard could be a valuable addition to Arteta’s squad if two of Arsenal’s star men end up leaving. He is the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer and has scored an impressive 60 goals in 126 appearances for Celtic.

He would definitely provide Arsenal with the much-needed quality upfront. He has been reliable in the last few seasons, and that could be a boost for Arteta.

Verdict

At 22, Edouard is at the right stage of his life to take his game to the next level. At the same time, the Gunners are at the risk of losing their main strikers. Edouard could be their leader in the future if he joins them. He is just 22 and has a lot of room for development.

Thus, Arsenal should once again raid Celtic to sign Odsonne Edouard, just like they signed his former teammate Kieran Tierney, who was also a promising prospect in Scotland before his move to England.
