Why Pellegrini and West Ham Would Be Insane In Trying To Sign This Former Premier League Player

Why West Ham must avoid re-signing Dimitri Payet

West Ham have been offered a shock return for their controversial star-man Dimitri Payet from Marseille. The 31-year-old left the London Stadium two years ago in bitter circumstances but now, the player’s representatives are exploring the possibility of a viable move back.

With West Ham close to signing Jack Wilshere, they may consider this offer but should Manuel Pellegrini go ahead with it?

Why Hammers shouldn’t buy Payet

West Ham were in a bad place when Payet chose to exit the club. They were in dire need of their star player at that point and yet, the Frenchman chose to force through an exit which left a bitter taste not just among the Hammers’ fans but Premier League fans in general.

With Pellegrini working towards rebuilding the club to work wonders next season, one might wonder if Payet is a trustworthy choice.

What if the 31-year-old asks out again? From what we have seen before, he only follows the tune of his own wishes. Signing him would create a huge risk and it does not make sense for West Ham to take him back.

From a managerial point of view, Pellegrini shouldn’t make a move for someone who is on the wrong side of the 30. He must focus towards putting together a long-term project. And relying on a somewhat conceited player who is getting past his prime, will be non-dexterous.

Conclusion

Re-signing a star player is always a joyous occasion for any club. However, in this case, the situation is quite different. West Ham procured their key man to stay and help them get over a bumpy season in the new stadium. Instead, the player did the opposite and started troubling the harmony of the team before leaving.

This has left a bitter taste in each and every Hammers’ fan. Although they need a player like Payet to cover for Manuel Lanzini’s due to an injury, they shouldn’t take him back. He has already proven that he values his own desires ahead of the club. Also, the fact that he had mentioned that he was “bored” playing for a mid-table team in the Premier League, should raise the alarm bells.
