According to TEAMTalk (h/t The Yorkshire Post), Rangers are keeping close tabs on Austrian forward Adrian Grbic ahead of the summer transfer window.
Grbic, 23, has been in sensational form for Clermont Foots in the French second-tier, helping his team to 5th position in the Ligue 2 standings. He joined them from Bundesliga side SCR Altach after two fine seasons in Austria and has also garnered attention from Brighton, Crystal Palace and Celtic as per the report.
Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard’s men lost track in the title race and have slipped 13 points behind fierce-rivals Celtic in the league standings. After starting the season on a high note, they lost matches at regular intervals and find themselves out of the race for the title.
Though Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe have led them brilliantly by scoring at a decent rate, they have failed to dominate their rivals. The Gers have gone 9 seasons without the Premiership title and therefore, Gerrard must bring reinforcements in the summer to bolster their attacking unit.
Morelos, Defoe, Florian Kamberi and Greg Stewart are the four centre-forwards available at the manager’s disposal. Kamberi was brought on loan in January and he could be on the move to his parent club at the end of his loan spell.
Morelos and Defoe, the two first-choice strikers have been brilliant throughout the campaign, scoring 12 and 13 goals respectively in the league. However, Morelos has been linked with a move away from the club and the English veteran is already 34. Stewart is 30 and has just one more year left on his contract at the Ibrox.
Therefore, to put up a good fight next season, Gerrard should look to bring in cover for the centre-forward position and Clermont Foots’ Adrian Grbic would be a viable option for the club.
Grbic has taken his game to the next level since leaving Austria and has been a regular scorer this term. In 28 games across all competitions, the youngster has scored a whopping 17 goals and 4 assists. He looks to have a great future ahead.
He would undoubtedly bring quality to Gerrard’s squad and also has some experience at the high level after making nearly 200 career appearances. He has also scored 5 times in 19 games for Austria’s U21 side.
Grbic is in the form of his life and Rangers should take the opportunity to enjoy his services from next campaign. He is just 23 and has a lot of room for development. Given his qualities, he could represent them in the future if he continues with the same form. Thus, Rangers should make him a top priority in the summer.
