Why Rangers should keep hold of Alfredo Morelos amidst interest
According to Dario AS (h/t Daily Mail), Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone desperately wants to sign forward Alfredo Morelos from Rangers in the summer.
Morelos, 23, came through the ranks of Independiente Medellin’s youth system in Colombia and moved to Rangers in the summer of 2017. Since his arrival in Scotland, he has been a regular member of the squad.
He has scored goals at a decent rate for the Gers and has won games for the side single-handedly on several occasions. He has been one of their best players for the last few years and ended as the top scorer in the Premiership last season.
Steven Gerrard did a fine job for the Glasgow club from the start of the season but there was a slight dip in form which saw them fall 13 points behind leaders Celtic in the race to the title. The forwards in the squad – Morelos, Jermain Defoe and Greg Stewart have done a decent job so far.
They have been excellent in the Europa League too after progressing to the round of 16. However, if they are to fight for various titles at a higher level in the next season, they need to keep hold of their best players.
In that case, Alfredo Morelos should not be allowed to leave in the summer. He is one of the in-form players for Rangers and could be their stalwart in the future.
The 23-year-old formed a brilliant partnership with Jermain Defoe until the Englishman got injured. Since then, Morelos has been leading the line. He has 29 goals in 45 games across all competitions and has also provided 10 assists.
The Colombian has proved to be a game-changer for the Gers on several occasions and his importance to the club is higher. Therefore, he should be kept at the Ibrox at least until his contract comes to an end in the summer of 2023.
Greg Stewart is already 30 and has just one more year left on his contract and at the same time, Defoe is in the twilight of his career. Apart from them, they have only Florian Kamberi on loan in the centre-forward position.
Hence, keeping Morelos would be wise of the club as he is capable of helping them to bigger success once he gains experience. He has been brilliant despite being just 23 and could be a crucial player in the years to come.

Verdict
The Colombian is just 23 and has a lot more to offer. He could be seen as a player for the club in the long run once Defoe and Stewart stop performing at their best.
Therefore, rangers should avoid any temptation from Atletico Madrid and keep him at the club for as long as possible.
