According to The Sun, Italian sides AC Milan and Roma are interested in signing Rangers left-back Borna Barisic in the summer. The report also suggests that both the clubs sent scouts to watch Barisic play in the win against Braga in the Europa League.
Barisic, 27, came through NK Osijek’s youth ranks in his homeland and played for Dinamo Zagreb and NK Lokomotiva before moving to Rangers in the summer of 2018. He has been a key member of the squad since his arrival and is one of the best players for Gers this season.
Steven Gerrard’s side have lacked a bit of concentration of late as they have slipped in the title race. However, they have done well in the Europa League so far. The manager would be hoping that all his key players stay fit and continue until the end of the tournament.
Next season, Gerrard should make sure that they put up a good fight for the Premiership title and this can be done only if they keep their key players. Therefore, they must block any possible exit for Borna Barisic, who is an integral member of the team.
The Gers have only one left-back in their ranks in Barisic and the Croatian has been in fine form this season after missing the majority of last season with a calf injury.
The former Dinamo Zagreb man has provided 14 assists in 35 games across all competitions and has also scored two goals. He is one of the Gers’ key player in contributing to their attack apart from playing a defensive role.
Barisic is also the first-choice left-back for Croatia and therefore, his importance for both the club and country is highly valued. He also has four assists to his name in the Europa League campaign and he would be a key member in the Gers squad if they qualify for the Champions League next season.
The 27-year-old penned a new contract at Ibrox in January that would keep him at the club until 2024. Therefore, they must not be tempted to sell him and make money as it can prove to be fatal for their future endeavours.
