Why Rangers should continue their pursuit of Patrik Hrosovsky

As per Czech outlet iSport.cz (h/t The Scottish Sun), Rangers are interested signing Genk star Patrik Hrosovsky this summer.

The report suggests that the Belgian outfit are willing to sell him for £3.5m. But the Gers want to sign him initially on loan with an option to buy him later. It is claimed that Hrosovsky could leave Genk just after joining a year ago despite having four more years left on his contract with the club.

Profile

Born in Slovakia, Hrosovsky came through the ranks of Viktoria Plzen’s youth system. He was sent on different loan spells initially in his career. He played for clubs like Banik Sokolov, SC Znojmo, and Usti nad Labem before returning to his parent club in the summer of 2014.

Hrosovsky came to prominence during his last five years with Plzen and played a key role in helping the club lift the Czech League title thrice and one Czech League Cup. After making 214 appearances for the club, he was signed by Genk last summer.

He immediately established himself as a regular member of the squad and went on to make 27 appearances last season with five of those coming in the Champions League.

Hrosovsky would be a reliable presence in Rangers’ midfield

At the moment, Steven Gerrard has five central minded midfielders in the squad. Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo have been regular starters and have been key figures. Scott Arfield has also done a decent job for the Gers. They also have Steven Davis and Glen Kamara, who is primarily used as a holding midfielder.

However, both Davis and Arfield are above 30 and reaching the twilight of their careers. And it is necessary for the Gers to bring in a young and in-form midfielder. Moreover, Aribo’s injury has also reduced Rangers’ options in midfield. Thus, they should consider signing a midfielder before the transfer window closes.

In that regard, Hrosovsky would be a smart addition to the squad. The Slovakian has been consistent and reliable in the last few years and still has a lot to offer at a higher level. He has made nearly 300 career appearances and his experience can come in handy for the Gers.

Hrosovsky can be a future replacement for either Davis or Arfield and his inclusion would certainly bolster the midfield contingent, whilst also bringing in healthy competition within the squad. He can be a crucial player for the Scottish giants this season if he is able to replicate the good form he has shown in the last few years.

Verdict

At 28, Hrosovsky still has a lot more to offer at a higher level. He can be a replacement for Arfield or Davis in the coming seasons. He would provide them with some much-needed quality in midfield. Thus, Rangers should try to lure him to Ibrox this summer.
