According to Football Insider (h/t Stoke Sentinel), Rangers are set to battle Stoke City for the signing of young forward Louis Appere, who plies his trade with Dundee United in the Scottish Championship.
Appere, 21, came through the ranks of Dundee United’s youth system and was sent on loan to Broughty AFC. Since his return, he was promoted to the Tangerines’ senior squad and has been regular under Robbie Neilson this term.
The youngster has shown his potential and could be on the move as he has also caught the attention of Stoke City along with Rangers, as per the report.
Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard’s men have failed in the race to the title and are currently 13 points behind fierce-rivals Celtic. Despite putting up a good fight at the start of the season, they have faltered eventually.
However, it is time for the manager to prepare for the next season and to be able to do well throughout the campaign, Gerrard should bring in reinforcements. Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe have been brilliant up front, scoring 25 goals between themselves. But with the Colombian linked with a move away from Ibrox in the summer, it is necessary to bring in a striker.
Apart from that, the manager should look for options on the right wing. Sheyi Ojo, who is on loan from Liverpool, is the only natural right-winger available in the squad. While Ryan Kent has done a decent job on the opposite flank, the Gers have several options as backups on the left side of the attack in Jordan Jones, Brandon Baker and Jake Hastie.
Thus, a move for an attacking player is the need of the hour and Louis Appere would be a perfect solution for the Glasgow club.
Appere has been in sensational form since making it to the first-team last summer. In 26 league games, he has scored 4 goals and provided 5 assists, and seems to be going from strength to strength. He could be a valuable asset for the Gers if he joins them and continues with the same form.
The Scottish youngster is just 21 and has a lot of room for development and could also be seen as the first-choice winger if Ojo returns to Anfield in the summer. Rangers, with Appere in the squad, they would have a natural right-winger in their squad.
At 21, Appere is at the right time to take his game to a higher level. He would definitely bring his quality, whilst adding the much-needed depth in the squad. He could also represent the Gers in the long run. Thus, Gerrard’s side should prioritize landing the youngster in the summer.
