Why Rangers should sign Mohamed Buya Turay in the summer
According to Daily Record, Rangers are looking at Sint-Truidense forward Mohamed Buya Turay as a replacement for Alfredo Morelos in the summer.
Turay, 25, joined Sint-Truidense in the summer of 2018 and was sent on loan after half a season to Swedish side Djurgarden. He proved himself in the Swedish league after finishing as the league’s top scorer with 15 goals in 2019, helping his side lift the Allsvenskan title.
However, he returned to his parent club only in December and couldn’t make it into the starting XI before the league got suspended. But his impressive performances in the last couple of seasons have put him under Rangers’ radar, as per the report.
Steven Gerrard’s men have lost the Premiership title race to fierce-rivals Celtic as they are 13 points away from the league leaders in the 2nd position in the table. After starting on a high note, the Gers lost the plot in between and their inconsistency showed up on several occasions.
Despite their dip in form, strikers Alfredo Morelos and Jermaine Defoe led the line brilliantly, scoring 12 and 13 goals respectively so far. But since the English veteran got injured, Rangers lacked confidence upfront and have failed to score enough to be in the title race.
They signed Florian Kamberi on loan in January but he could be on his way back to his parent club after his loan spell ends in the summer (h/t Glasgow Times). And with Morelos linked with a move away from the Ibrox, Gerrard should bring in reinforcements to replace the Colombian.
In that regard, Sint-Truidense striker Mohamed Buya Turay would be a viable option for the club as he has developed his game and has been impressive in the last two seasons.
After scoring 9 goals for Dalkurd FF in the Swedish League in the 2018 season, Turay continued with the fine form in the following campaign. He has made nearly 120 career appearances and has scored an impressive 51 goals for whichever teams he has played for in the past.
The Sierra Leone international would undoubtedly add depth to Gerrard’s squad and would develop into a key player if he is able to replicate the same form that he has shown in the past.

Verdict
With Morelos linked with a move away from Scotland in the summer and Defoe already past his prime, Rangers need to strengthen their attacking unit. And Turay, given his goalscoring ability, would be a perfect fit at Ibrox. Hence, the Gers should lure the 25-year-old in the summer and add him to their attacking unit.
