Why Real Madrid should make a move for N’Golo Kante
As per Spanish outlet AS (h/t Daily Mail), Real Madrid are keen on signing Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante for £71m as they have been long-term admirers of the Frenchman.
Kante, 29, rose through the ranks of JS Suresnes’ youth system and joined Boulogne’s B side in the summer of 2012. From Boulogne, he moved to Caen, where he made 81 appearances before joining Leicester City in the Premier League in August 2015.
In his first season, he helped the Foxes win the league title and became an instant hit in England with his relentless work rate. Chelsea then snapped him up and since then, he has been a regular member of the squad, winning the Premier League that year with the Blues. He also played a key role in France’s 2018 World Cup-winning campaign.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have managed to recover from their poor campaign last season. Zinedine Zidane’s return to Santiago Bernabeu has helped the team produce good results. They even went on to win the Spanish Super Cup earlier this season. They are currently in the 2nd position in the La Liga standings.
N’Golo Kante could bolster Real Madrid’s midfield
Apart from a forward reinforcements, Zidane should also bring in midfielders to the squad this summer, for the club to take the next step. The La Liga giants have a plethora of midfield talents in their ranks. However, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are already beyond 30 and are reaching the back end of their careers.
In addition, Casemiro is the only defensive midfielder available at the manager’s disposal. The Brazilian has been outstanding, featuring in the most number of minutes by any Real Madrid player this term. But he has no proper backup. Thus, a midfielder is a must in the summer.
In that regard, Kante would be a massive signing for the Spanish giants. The Frenchman is capable of playing in both the advanced and the deep-lying role and could be a valuable player under Zidane. Though he has struggled with injuries, his abilities cannot be doubted. He would add depth to Zidane’s squad, whilst also bringing in healthy competition.
The World Cup winner racked up 4 goals and 4 assists last season and has produced three goals this season, despite limited appearances. And that shows he would provide them with the much-needed extra goals from the middle of the park.

Verdict
At 29, Kante has a few more years left to play at a higher level, and given his track record, he would be a massive addition to Real Madrid. Thus, Los Blancos should lure the former Leicester City man to Santiago Bernabeu this summer to bolster their midfield.
