As per Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), AC Milan are interested in signing Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic, who moved to Santiago Bernabeu only last summer.
Jovic, 22, came through the ranks of Red Star Belgrade’s youth system in his homeland and moved to Benfica in January 2016. After failing to make an impression in the Portuguese league, he was sent on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he joined permanently after a season in Germany.
He was instrumental in Frankfurt’s run to the semi-finals of the Europe League with 10 goals, whilst also adding 17 in the Bundesliga.
His impressive form attracted several top European clubs but Real Madrid won the race to sign him. However, he has failed to live up to the expectations and thus, the Spanish giants should part ways with him this summer.
Los Blancos, meanwhile, have been brilliant throughout the campaign after a torrid last season. Zinedine Zidane’s return for his second term in charge of the club brought positivity into the squad and they have performed well under the Frenchman.
The La Liga giants are currently 2nd in the La Liga standings after their 2-1 loss to Real Betis prior to the season getting suspended. However, they have done well so far in the attack and in defence. Madrid have scored 49 goals so far, whilst conceding just 19 times in the league. They boast of the best defensive record this season.
Madrid have a plethora of attacking talents in their ranks. Karim Benzema has been the leader in the attack and has been brilliant this term. He has already racked up 19 goals and 9 assists so far. Mariano Diaz, who has also received fewer opportunities, is also capable of leading the attack.
Apart from that, they have Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and youngsters Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes to score goals. In that regard, selling Jovic would be the right decision by Los Blancos.
Jovic has failed to impress with his performance and as a result, he has featured in just 15 games in the league, starting in only 4 of them. In his entire career so far, the Serbian has had just one good season, where he scored 17 times in the league last time for Frankfurt. Madrid need a player who can get them 15 or more goals per season.
The Serbian international is still in his learning curve and needs to develop himself elsewhere before leading a top team. Though he has the qualities, he needs to be playing regularly to boost his confidence. And Madrid keeping hold of him would be a waste of resources.
The Spanish giants can’t afford to keep trusting a forward who has had just one good season in his career. They should look to part ways with Jovic in the summer. This decision would be helpful for both the club and the player, who can revive his career elsewhere.
