According to AS (h/t ESPN), Real Madrid could bid for Eduardo Camavinga. The Rennes youngster has been admired at the Bernabeu ever since he broke onto the scene. The report suggests that Camavinga along with his French compatriot could be pursued by Real Madrid ahead of next season.
Eduardo Camavinga is an 18-year-old French midfielder who plays for Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais. He started his youth career at Drapeau-Fougeres in 2008 and moved to Rennes’ youth setup in 2013.
Signing his first professional contract in 2018, he became the youngest player ever to sign a professional contract with the club. He made his debut for the first-team in April 2019 against Angers and scored his first goal for the club against Lyon in December 2019.
So far, Camavinga has made 52 appearances for Rennais, scoring twice and assisting thrice in the process (source – Transfermarkt). The midfielder recently made his debut for France and also scored his first goal. He has broken multiple records due to his young age. Usually deployed in central midfield, he can also be used as a defensive midfielder.
Once Real Madrid had the best midfield combination in the world which was responsible for their continental dominance. Casemiro was the dirty worker who was tasked with the defensive duties. Toni Kroos was the fulcrum of the team, with every move being dictated by his sniper-like passing skills. Lastly, there was Luka Modric who provided the creativity in the final third.
Together, these three cracked open the most stubborn of defences but times have changed now. Modric’s age is slowly catching up and looks like he is losing the edge he once had. Real Madrid need someone to take over the mantle from the ageing Croatian if they are to continue their dominance.
The signing of Camavinga can go a long way in easing Modric out of the side. He is one of the hottest prospects to come out of France this season and he has taken Europe by storm. His displays have already gotten him a ticket to the national team at just 17. An all-action midfielder who can do almost everything, he would be the perfect signing for the Blancos.
Signing him next season will allow him to develop more and give him more experience. There is no question that Real Madrid need him. He has the potential to become a world-class talent and Real Madrid always settle for nothing less.
