Why Rhian Brewster would be a fantastic addition to Aston Villa

According to The Sun, Aston Villa have made an inquiry to sign Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster in a bid to bolster their attack.

The report suggests that the youngster could cost £20m and Villa have the funds to sign him. However, they could face a stiff competition to secure his services as clubs like Burnley, Brighton, Crystal Palace, and Sheffield United have also made contacts to sign him.

Born in England, Brewster began his journey with Chelsea and joined Liverpool’s youth system in the summer of 2015. He excelled with the club’s youth squads and made his senior debut last season. However, with limited game time, he was sent on loan to Swansea City last January.

The 20-year-old immediately established himself as a regular member of the squad and scored 10 goals in 20 league games. He also helped the Swans reach the Championship playoffs last season. Brewster has also represented England at various youth levels from U16 to U21.

He was also instrumental in the U17 squad’s World Cup win in 2017. Brewster finished as the competition’s top scorer with 8 goals.

Brewster could be a future leader in Villa’s attack

Dean Smith’s men weren’t at their best last season despite securing their top-flight status. One of the chief reasons for the abysmal performances was the lack of consistency in front of goal. The Villans scored just 41 goals in 38 games. This is poor considering the Premier League standards.

Wesley picked up a major injury and was sidelined for the majority of the campaign and his replacement Mbwana Samatta didn’t help their cause either. Keinan Davis also struggled for game time and consistency. Thus, signing a striker is a must even though they have managed to bring in Ollie Watkins.

In that regard, Brewster would be a terrific addition to Smith’s squad. The youngster has some higher-level experience under his belt and with regular game time, he could be a useful player for the Villans. Moreover, Samatta and Scott Hogan could be sold, as per Daily Mail. Hence, bringing in the 20-year-old would help them improve their squad depth.

Verdict

With Samatta and Hogan on the verge of an exit, it is clear that Villa are in dire need of strikers. And investing in the youth could also help them reap rewards in the future. Thus, they should manage to lure Brewster to Villa Park this summer and enjoy his best, which is yet to come.
