According to The Sun, Rangers are preparing a loan move for Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster in the summer.
Brewster, 20, joined Liverpool’s youth set-up from Chelsea in the summer of 2015 and has played at different levels for the Reds. He was also a part of the squad which won the Champions League last season and is one of the most exciting youngsters in English football.
The youngster was instrumental in the England U17 side’s World Cup-winning campaign in 2017. He scored two hat-tricks in the competition and was one of the scorers in final against Spain, ending the tournament with the Golden Boot award. However, he has found it hard to get a chance with the Reds’ first-team and moved on loan to Swansea City last January.
With the new season approaching, Rangers boss Gerrard should look to bring in reinforcements to the squad. One area he must focus on strengthening is the centre-forward position. Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe are the two first-choice strikers and Florian Kamberi was signed on loan in January to add depth the squad.
The Colombian international led the line brilliantly in the absence of Defoe, who has racked up 13 goals in the league so far. However, Morelos has been linked with an exit from Ibrox in the summer and the English veteran is nearing the back end of his career. Greg Stewart also has just one year left on his contract with the club.
Thus, to improve their attacking options in the next term, Gerrard should make a move for Liverpool youngster Brewster before the next season commences.
Brewster is one of the budding talents in English football and has already proven his goalscoring mettle at various levels, including the U17 World Cup campaign.
In 11 games for Swansea City since January, he has scored 4 goals, making it 9 goals in 23 games across all competition this term. He may not be a prolific striker but Brewster has done a lot which belies his tender age.
At 20, the Liverpool youngster has a lot to offer and the Gers should give him an opportunity to boost his confidence. At the same time, he would add the much-needed depth to Gerrard’s squad and thus, Rangers should manage to lure him in the summer.
