The last instalment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise was released in 2013. Rumours have already started about the next game. But should Rockstar games hurry with the release GTA 6?
The GTA series has been a fan favourite since its first release in 1997. The open-world game made the world a lot more interesting. Even if the first games were 2D they offered so many different things. Since then the game evolved into 3D adding more content to the game. Finally, Grand Theft Auto Online also brought the much requested multiplayer features.
Fans have been waiting for the next Grand theft Auto game. The excitement was at its peak during Rockstar’s slot at the E3. Instead, the developers revealed that they are bringing the Grand Theft Auto games to the next-gen consoles. Grand Theft Auto 5 is the only game that is available on PS 3, PS 4, PS 5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox X|S and PC. It has sold more than 150 million copies of the game.
The addition of GTA Online was the most exciting part of the game. After some initial hiccups, the online mode took the open-world exploration to new heights. After the single-player mode is complete, apart from a few side missions the game starts getting stale really fast. With the online mode, more options are available to the players. Rockstar is also releasing new content for the Online mode which keeps the game fresh.
The game got a boost in its player base when Epic Games gave away the game for free in 2020. Players flocked to the website to get a free copy of the game. The huge amount of fans trying to get the game overloaded the servers of the website. With the game boasting such a high player base even after 7 years after launch releasing a new game right now simply does not make sense.
Initially, the only way for developers to release new content was to make a completely new game as only physical copies could be sold. As the internet system has developed, we started to see developers releasing content via DLC. And finally shifting completely to releasing updates over the internet. Releasing a new game will certainly kill off the player base of the current game.
The developers should focus more on releasing more content for the single-player mode. Adding Vice City and Liberty City will be certainly offering more stories for the players. Since GTA V offers the choice between three separate characters and their stories, Rockstar could add more characters or even existing ones and give them their own storyline.
Rockstar could also improve the Online mode and make it better. Currently, the game is plagued with cheaters and hackers. These players ruin the game for everybody. Granted that due to the initial single-layer mode of the game, the developers might not have anticipated this issue. But with the rising number of cheaters in the game, it simply becomes a pain to play the game. Even if a new game is released, this problem will still continue unless Rockstar finds an appropriate solution.
The game has so much potential even after 7 years from the release that hurrying with GTA 6 will be a waste. The most logical reason to release GTA 6 will be if a new gaming technology is released which will increase the quality and the features of the game. Until then Rockstar should still focus on Grand Theft Auto 5.
