Why Sheffield United must hijack Arsenal’s move for Glen Kamara

Rangers face a fight to keep Glen Kamara this month after Sheffield United became the latest English side along with Arsenal to show an interest, as per The Sun.

The Finnish international has established himself as a first-team regular under Steven Gerrard. But his progress for both club and country has not gone unnoticed with a host of admirers keen to tempt him back down south (h/t The Sun).

Rangers fans have enjoyed watching their team play some attractive football this season. Steven Gerrard has dragged them towards being genuine title contenders with his tactics but he wouldn’t be competing if it weren’t for his players. And Kamara has been key to Gerrard’s side, playing in 29 games already this season.

Kamara is a defensive midfield player whose primary role for Rangers is to break up attacks and sit in front of the back four. His energy levels and calmness in possession make him the ideal player for this role, too. Indeed, only a few weeks back, Kamara produced a level-headed performance in the cauldron-like atmosphere of Parkhead as the Gers saw off rivals Celtic.

Furthermore, Kamara’s form was excellent last season. In fact, he has already achieved double figures for the Scandanavians in terms of caps.

Having started 12 times this term for Rangers, he played a full 90 minutes barring just two times. Once again, it’s a testament to how highly Steven Gerrard rates him. Bringing in a defensive-minded player like Kamara would be a good move for Sheffield United.

They need cover for Ollie Norwood. Not only that, it would give Wilder the option of fielding both Norwood and Kamara. That’s an avenue that the Blades boss needs to have available, especially they manage to stay up.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have Torreira, Ceballos and Guedouzi in that position and a move for Kamara seems strange. The Rangers man will not be guaranteed to game time at Emirates but the same cannot be said of Sheffield United where the competition for places is comparatively less.

Bringing in the right players in January is always tough. In Glen Kamara, the Blades would be getting a player in his prime years and with plenty to prove. As midfield players go, within the budget of the Blades, they don’t come much better than the Rangers man. They must do everything to sign the midfielder ahead of the Gunners.
