According to FOS (h/t The Shields Gazette), Sheffield United are considering a move for Olympiacos midfielder Mady Camara in the summer.
Camara, 23, has established himself as one for the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe after highly impressing with the Greek champions (h/t The Shields Gazette). After two productive seasons with Ajaccio in Ligue 2, he was signed by the Greek outfit in 2018 and since then, he has been one of the standout performers for them.
After helping them finish second in the last campaign, Camara has been instrumental in the club’s title race this term as the Greek giants are leading the league table with 8 points. And his impressive performances have put him on the radars of Sheffield United (h/t The Shields Gazette).
Meanwhile, the Blades have been the surprise package in England’s top flight this season as they have performed beyond expectations. Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has managed to it without high-profile names in the squad and the promoted club are currently 7th in the league table ahead of Tottenham and Arsenal.
Though the Blades’ attacking unit has scored just 30 goals, their midfield and the defensive unit have been top-notch in the Premier League. They have conceded just 25 goals so far and boast of the second-best defensive unit in the top flight.
In midfield, John Lundstram, John Fleck and Oliver Norwood are the only reliable players available at the manager’s disposal. And all three of them have been in excellent form this term. However, the manager brought in Sander Berge to the defensive midfield position to add to their midfield ranks and a lot is expected from him in the future.
Jack Rodwell was also signed last January but his contract with the club comes to an end in the summer. Muhamed Besic is on loan from Everton and will return to Goodison Park when the season is over. Thus, Wilder should bring in reinforcements to add depth to the midfield and Olympiacos’ Mady Camara would be a viable option for the Blades.
The Guinea international has already featured in 39 games for his side this season and has established himself in the starting XI. The Guinean put in one of his best performances against Arsenal in the Europa League and was key to Oympiacos’ defensive excellence in that fixture.
He is just 23 and can be seen as a long-term prospect for the Blades. He would definitely add depth to the squad and his inclusion would also bring in a healthy competition to the other midfielders in Wilder’s team.
The Blades need to improve their quality in midfield if they are to sustain at the top in the Premier League for a long time and Camara, in that regard, would prove to be a valuable addition, given his good run of form in the past two years. Thus, Sheffield United should lure him to Bramall Lane in the summer.
