Why Everton should make a move for Patrik Schick

As per Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are interested in signing AS Roma forward Patrik Schick, who currently plies his trade with RB Leipzig on loan.

Schick, 24, rose through the ranks of Sparta Prague’s youth system in his homeland before moving to Italy with Sampdoria in the summer of 2016. After an impressive season with I Blucerchiati, where he scored 11 goals in 34 league games, he was signed by Roma on loan initially in 2017, before making the deal permanent in 2018.

However, he failed to live up to the expectations with the Rome outfit and was sent on loan to Bundesliga side Leipzig last summer. The forward has been in good form this season but the German outfit have refused to sign him permanently, as per the report. Thus, Everton should make use of his availability and attempt to sign Schick.

Everton, meanwhile, have endured a disappointing campaign so far. As a result of their slow start, Marco Silva was sacked earlier in the campaign. Though they did well after the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, the results didn’t last long.

They have been dumped out of the other cup competitions, whilst also finding themselves in the 12th position in the league table. They have been inconsistent and have failed as a unit. Thus, the manager should bring in reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window if they are to lift themselves up and progress in further campaigns.

Schick could add depth to the attacking unit

One area where the manager should focus on strengthening is the centre-forward position. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done well so far, scoring 13 goals. Richarlison, who is a left-winger by trade, has also slotted in as centre-forward and done well, bagging 10 goals.

Young Moise Kean has struggled to settle in the Premier League since joining the Toffees last summer and Cenk Tosun has struggled with injuries. And Oumar Niasse’s contract comes to an end this summer. Therefore, Everton should bring in a striker in the summer to add more depth and quality.

In that regard, signing Schick would be a massive boost for the squad. The Czech Republic international has been brilliant this season, scoring 10 goals in 21 league games for Leipzig. He has improved a lot since his move to Germany. He is just 24 and can develop himself under the guidance of Ancelotti if he joins the Toffees.

A talented forward, Schick would definitely add depth to the squad, whilst also bringing in healthy competition. He can develop into a leader in Everton’s attacking unit alongside Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, if he is able to keep up the good form.

Verdict

With a lack of quality and numbers upfront, the Toffees should look to bring in strikers to their squad. And Schick would provide them with much-needed extra goals. Thus, they should make a move for the former Sampdoria man and lure him to Goodison Park this summer.
