Former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged Leeds United to make a move for Norwich City star Teemu Pukki in the summer, as per Leeds Live.
Pukki, 30, came through FC KooTeePee’s youth system and struggled during his time at Sevilla, Shalke and Celtic. Later, a move to Denmark with Brondby helped him revive his career as he scored 72 goals in 164 games for the Danish outfit. His impressive performances earned him a move to England with Norwich City.
Since his move to Arrow Road, Pukki’s career has taken an upward turn. He was instrumental in the Canaries’ promotion to the top-flight, which earned him the Championship Player of the Year award last season. And he is also sought after by several clubs after impressing in the Premier League this term.
Meanwhile, Marcelo Bielsa has managed to bring the best out of his men despite having limited options in several areas. The Whites are currently atop the Championship table as they lead fellow promotion-seekers West Brom by a point.
Leeds have done well in every department despite enduring a slight dip in form in January and February. They have the best defensive record so far, conceding just 31 goals in the campaign and their attacking unit has scored 56 goals.
However, with the season coming to an end soon, the manager should look to bring in reinforcements to several key areas. One area that Bielsa should focus on strengthening is the centre-forward position.
Patrick Bamford has been excellent up front, scoring 13 goals in the league but he been without support. Bielsa signed Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan last winter but the Frenchman has failed to deliver. And Tyler Roberts (21) is too young to be depended upon.
Thus, the manager should make a move for a striker in the summer if they have to do better and Norwich’s Pukki would be a suitable addition to the team.
After racking up 29 goals and 10 assists last term, Pukki has continued with the fine form this season with 11 goals so far. In the process, he has scored some important goals against Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester and also bagged a hat-trick against the Magpies.
The Finnish international has also bagged 25 goals in 80 appearances for his country and his experience would be of huge value to the Whites. He is in the form of his life and Leeds making a move for him would be a wise decision.
At 30, Pukki doesn’t seem to slow down and could offer a lot more in terms of goals for the Championship side if he joins them. He would also definitely bring healthy competition to Bamford and his inclusion would add the much-needed depth to Bielsa’s squad. Thus, Leeds should lure the former Celtic man to Elland Road in the summer.
